How to Enjoy a NASCAR Race at Dover Speedway

The Dover Speedway in Dover Delaware was opened in 1969 to host both car and horse races. Only one-mile long, this oval track is fast-paced and packed with excitement. If you are looking for a good old-fashioned oval track race, then Dover Speedway is the track for you. Here are some tips to help you enjoy a trip to the monster-mile.

  1. Step 1

    Get tickets through Dover Speedway's website or at the track on race day.

  2. Step 2

    Reserve accommodations if you don't live in the area. Dover Speedway's website provides an extensive listing of campgrounds, RV parks and hotels in the Speedway's vicinity.

  3. Step 3

    Use of mass transit is suggested in the Dover area. The Dover Area Rapid Transit runs many park and ride services on race days.

  4. Step 4

    Arrive early for an opportunity to tour this historic race track and be sure to check out the Monster Bridge.

  5. Step 5

    Dress comfortably, but bring a jacket as Dover can get chilly in the autumn.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to download the fan guide from Dover Speedway's website, as it is loaded with useful racetrack information.
  • Pets are only allowed in the RV and parking areas. Check out the fan guide for regulations concerning pets.
  • DART transportation to off-site parking areas generally ends one hour after the race. Check the bus schedules for the off-site parking facility you choose.
