Shop for a Credit Card Online

Step1
Read the fine print before you apply for credit cards online. You should look at both the introductory and the long-term interest rates, as well as any fees associated with your application or maintenance of the card.
Step2
Look for cards that suit your current financial situation. If you have little or no credit history, you may need to apply to a credit card company that has no credit score or credit history requirements.
Step3
Check out the credit card offers made by your personal banking institution. Many times these financial institutions will provide credit cards for only their existing account holders. They may provide you with a higher line of credit depending on your current account status.

Gather Your Personal and Financial Information

Step1
Have your social security number handy before you begin a credit card application. Other identifying numbers that may be required include your government issued ID, as well as your bank account number if you are applying for a credit card through your bank.
Step2
Look for your annual gross income on your tax return or your W-2. This is the amount of income you received throughout the year before any tax was levied upon it.

Complete Your Application

Step1
Log on to the financial institution or bank's website and select the link for consumer credit cards.
Step2
Look for a link or button that says "Apply Now" or something similar.
Step3
Fill in your personal information in the fields indicated on the form. You may be presented with as many as three or four pages before you complete your application.
Step4
Agree to the terms and conditions for use of the credit card before completing your application.
Step5
Check online or phone the credit card company to determine whether your application has been approved.

Tips & Warnings

  • Under the law, you may exclude certain types of income from your annual gross income, such as alimony and child support payments if you do not want them considered as funds for repaying your credit card debt.
