How to Apply for a Citi Credit Card

Citi credit cards are a division of the Citigroup family of companies. Citigroup offers a variety of financial services in addition to its credit cards. These services include banking accounts, savings, as well as loans and lines of home equity credit. You can apply for a Citi credit card even if you do not use any of the company's other financial products.

Instructions

    Review Citi Credit Card Products

  1. Step 1

    Note that Citi provides credit card products for the three main credit providers including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. The interest rates and payback terms and conditions will vary among these different credit card companies.

  2. Step 2

    Check out Citi's line of student credit products or "College Cards," many of which offer cash back on qualified purchases or rewards points that may be applied to travel or other expenses. These cards do not require the use of a co-signer.

  3. Step 3

    Select a Citi credit cards, such as AAdvantage, that offers mileage for frequent flyer plans. You will accumulate mileage when you charge purchases, which you may then apply to air travel and upgrades.

    Visit Citi.com to begin the application process (see Resources below).

  6. Step 2

    Choose a Citi credit card and click the "Apply Now" button.

  7. Step 3

    Make sure you meet the standards before applying. You must be at least 18 and have a valid social security number.

  8. Step 4

    Provide Citi with your email address if you wish to be contacted regarding your application or account through your email.

  9. Step 5

    Use the fields provided to supply your personal contact information, your employment information and gross annual income.

  10. Step 6

    Select a security password. Citi requires that its clients provide them with this word to identify them via phone when making an account inquiry. Make it easy to remember but not easy for others to figure out.

  11. Step 7

    Accept the terms and conditions placed upon your application for a Citi credit card before hitting the "Continue to Confirm" button. You will be given the opportunity to review your application before submitting it to Citi for review.

  • Be aware of phishing or spoof emails that attempt to redirect you to a false website and collect your personal information. Protect yourself by maintaining updated security software on your computer.
