Touch the text field you are using to activate the iPhone's keyboard. Text fields include text messaging, note taking and the call screen. This keyboard takes up the bottom third of the iPhone screen and allows quick typing.

Track each letter and numeral that you press as you use the keyboard. The iPhone pops up the last item that you pressed on the keyboard above your finger tip to prevent any mistakes.

Type with emphasis by activating the "Caps Lock" feature on iPhone. Press the "Caps Lock" button on the keyboard and then press the "Shift Up" key twice to enable capitalized words.

Capitalize certain letters and words using the keyboard on the iPhone. One press of the "Shift Up" key on the keyboard allows you to place an upper case letter in your text message or notes.

Insert special symbols or numbers into your messages, using the appropriate key on the keyboard. Symbols like pound or exclamation points are available by pressing the "Symbol" key at the top of the keyboard. You can insert a series of numbers by pressing the "Numbers" key, which is located next to the "Symbols" key.

Position the cursor on your iPhone by using the phone's touch-sensitive screen. Click on the cursor in your text field and drag it with your fingertip to the appropriate position to begin typing again.

Start the "Auto Capitalization" feature on the iPhone to capitalize the first letter of each new sentence. You should press the "General" key in your text field, select the "Keyboard" field and toggle the "Auto Capitalization" function on or off depending on your needs.
