So...You like Reubens. You like Spring Rolls. Here is a fun way to make the best of both worlds.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A meat cleaver or chef's knife
  • 1/2 lb Roast Beef
  • 1/2 lb Pastrami
  • Saurekraut
  • Swiss Cheese, shredded
  • 30 to 40 Asian Wraps
  • 1000 Island Dressing
  • Cooking Oil heated in a frier
  • A frying baskets
  • 1 egg

Step1
Pre-heat the oil in the frier to 350 degrees farenheit. While it is heating gather all of your ingredients together.
Step2
Combine the roast beef and the pastrami together. Finely chop the meat into very small pieces. You can even roll them together and finely julienne them.
Step3
Beat one whole egg with 2 tablespoons of water.
Step4
Lay out a sheet of the asian wrap. Place a heaping spoonful of the meat, and a small spoon of the sauerkraut in the middle of the wrapper. Sprinkle the cheese on top, lightly.
Step5
Dip your finger into the egg-wash and "paint" 2 edges of the wrapper with the wash. Fold the wrapper in half to make a triangle and press firmly with your finger or a fork to seal the edges. Repeat this step until all of the ingredients are used.
Step6
Drop the folded triangles gently into the hot oil. Allow 3 to 5 minutes for the wrap to fry and turn a very light golden color. They will roll and "fizz" when they are ready. Remove the wrap with tongs or a spatula and place on a salted paper towel to cool and dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the 1000 Island dressing as a dip.
  • If you want a darker finish or crispier texture let them fry a little longer.
  • Salt the wraps after they are cooked for a little extra bite.
  • Add some diced Jalapeno and/or onion for a little spice.
  • Garlic salt is a nice compliment to this dish.
  • Always be careful with hot cooking oil.
  • Always allow the food to cool a few minutes before tasting.
  • Allow your oil to cool before you dispose of it.
