Step1
Check the Garda website (www.garda.ie) for yearly recruitment drives and application deadlines. The Garda normally hold open days in May and September each year, which are also advertised online.

Potential applicants must have achieved a grade not lower than B3 at Foundation Level or D3 at another level in Mathematics, and a qualifying grade in two languages, one of which must be English (a grade not lower than D3 at Ordinary Level) or Irish (a grade not lower than C3 at Foundation Level or D3 at another level).

A physical competency test must be passed before apply to the Garda. This test has replaced the previous height requirement.
Step4
Selected candidates will be required to undergo an exacting medical examination by a Registered Medical Practitioner nominated by the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána. Such candidates must be of good mental and bodily health and free from any defect or abnormality likely to interfere with the efficient performance of their duties.
Step5
Selection will be by means of a three stage process as follows: Stage 1, comprising of three written tests; Stage 2, including elements like a written communication exercise and an interview; and Stage 3, which will include a medical examination and may also include a physical ability test.
Step6
Applicants for the Garda must be a national of a European Union Member State, a national of an EEA State or the Swiss Confederation, or be a refugee under the Refugee Act, 1996.
