How to Substitute one Ingredient for Another!

I was starting to bake a cake and found I only had one egg, but needed two. It was too late to go to the grocery store and I had already mixed the ingredients. What should I do?? Listen and Learn!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
For ONE WHOLE EGG, you may SUBSTITUTE 2 egg yolks, or 2 tablespoons dried whole egg plus 2 1/2 tablespoons water.
Step2
Missing 1 CUP BUTTER OR MARGARINE, You may SUBSTITUTE 1 cup of Crisco with 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Step3
MISSING 1 Square (ounce) of CHOCOLATE, you may SUBSTITUTE 3 or 4 tablespoons cocoa with 1/2 tablespoon oil.
Step4
Missing 1 cup whole MILK, you may SUBSTITUTE 1/2 cup evaporated milk plus 1/2 cup water.
Step5
Missing 1 TABLESPOON FLOUR, for thickening purposes, you may SUBSTITUTE 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch. Or 1 tablespoon granulated tapioca.
Step6
Missing 1 cup of CAKE FLOUR, you may SUBSTITUTE 7/8 cup all-purpose flour.

  • When substituting one item for another be sure to use exact measurements!
