A potbellied pig can make a wonderful pet. They are loyal and loving, but as with all animals they are costly and require a lot of time, patience and work. Potbellied pigs are very trainable indoor pets. They keep themselves very clean and are meticulous about hygiene, but they can still create unpleasant odors. Most of these odors can be prevented, though, and with a little diligence those that can't be prevented can be easily eliminated.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

House train your potbellied pig. Because of their intelligence pigs can be trained to use a litter box, while others can use a doggy door or learn to wait to go outside. Teach the pig when and where to relieve itself and you will eliminate most odors.

  2. Step 2

Have your pig spayed or neutered. Potbellied pig's pheromones are unpleasant and contribute to unwanted body odor. Neutering helps with the urge to spray.

  3. Step 3

Groom your pig regularly and give baths only as needed. Use only hypoallergenic shampoos.

  4. Step 4

Feed your pet only food specifically designed for potbellied pigs. Table scraps or other animal food can give the potbellied pig intestinal problems and gas.

  5. Step 5

Regularly clean the area your pet uses for waste. Dispose of waste as soon as possible. Help keep odors in this area to a minimum by removing pet waste on a regular basis.

  6. Step 6

Clean accidents using a product containing enzymes. This eliminates odors from pet accidents.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not allow waste to sit. The potbellied pig doesn't like a dirty pen.
