Parents often wish that they could be a bigger part of their child's elementary school experience. By taking the time every now and then to volunteer in the school community, the parent shows the child that they care about him and his school. The elementary school faculty also appreciates the act of kindness.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Arrange a meeting with your child's elementary school principal. Discuss your desire to be involved in your child's school community.

  2. Step 2

Present the hours and days that you are available. Only commit to as many hours as your schedule can accommodate.

  3. Step 3

Discuss the kinds of activities that you would like to be involved in at the elementary school. If you are creative with arts and crafts, you could help with a school wide bake sale. You could also come to your child's elementary school once a month to do crafts with the children.

  4. Step 4

Decide on a start date. It is important to mark that day on your calendar. Otherwise, you might forget about it.

  5. Step 5

Tell your child about your plan. It is very important that you have a discussion about how she should behave when you help out at her elementary school. Sometimes children show off or act silly when their parents come to school.

  6. Step 6

Encourage your child to be part of the volunteer efforts. By showing your child at such a young age how involved you are, he most likely will follow your lead.
