Mothers and fathers who have extra time can consider getting more involved in their child's preschool program. By helping out in the child's preschool community, parents demonstrate good citizenship to the children. The preschool community is also thankful for the gracious time and efforts that the parents contribute.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set up a meeting with your child's preschool director. Discuss your reasons for becoming more involved in your child's preschool community.

  2. Step 2

Tell the director the hours and days that you are available to volunteer.

  3. Step 3

Converse about what the preschool program needs immediately. Begin volunteering your time with these important activities. Then progressively move onto other projects to showcase your talents and gifts within the preschool community.

  4. Step 4

Mark on your calendar your day to begin. Many times people have good intentions, but if something is set in writing, it is more likely to happen.

  5. Step 5

Sit down with your child and tell him about your intentions to become more involved with his community. Depending on the age of the child, he may or may not understand completely. Discuss the expectations you have for his behavior when you are volunteering your time at his preschool.

  6. Step 6

Encourage your child to become more involved with her preschool program as well. Small things such as picking up trash around the park teaches her valuable lessons that can last a lifetime. Praise her for her good citizenship.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't plan on volunteering more time than you can give. Be realistic.
