Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Make sure that Internet security software is turned off. Check any virus or firewall software to make sure they are disabled. Often this can interfere with changing router settings.
Step2
Locate the IP address of the router. Some routers have a default setting for the IP address; it can be 192.168.0.0 or 192.168.1.1. Sometimes a router has a more specific default address. Please consult the routers owner manual or conduct an Internet search to determine the specific IP address.
Step3
Open the Internet browser located on the computer. In the Internet address window type the IP address of the router. If the location is correct a dialogue box may ask for a username and password. There is usually a default for each that is provided in the owners manual or on the Internet. The most common are "admin" for the username and "password" for the password. Beware if no security dialogue appears as this is a security risk and needs to be changed.
Step4
Change the setting on the router Internet interface to DHCP. In most routers this option is offered on the first page of the interface. There will be two options: Static IP and DHCP. Choose DHCP. Close the browser and it is done.
