    Hotel Room Baby Proofing

  1. Step 1

Advise hotel staff ahead of time that you are arriving with a baby and ask if they have a baby proof kit. If not, bring your own.

  2. Step 2

Review the hotel's fire escape routes and look for exits.

  3. Step 3

Check your room for loose or dangling curtain or blind cords.

  4. Step 4

Spot dangers like electrical outlets, sharp corners on furniture and loose electrical cords. It is important to do this low to the ground to have the baby or toddler's perspective.

  5. Step 5

Move any furniture that may be against a window or balcony.

  6. Step 6

Remove shampoo, conditioners, plastic dry cleaning bags, coffee stir sticks and matches from low counter tops.

  7. Step 7

Store your suitcase on the floor instead of up on top where your baby may pull it down on top of himself.

  8. Car Baby Proofing

  9. Step 1

Check the car seat before your car trip to ensure it still fits correctly and all the belts are correctly installed.

  10. Step 2

Pack your baby a bin of toys that he can play with during the trip and make sure they are large and soft.

  11. Step 3

Purchase an emergency car kit with a flashlight and blanket.

  12. Step 4

Remove your baby's coat before placing her in the car seat.

  13. Eating out Baby Proofing

  14. Step 1

Secure your baby with waist and middle strap.

  15. Step 2

Ask your server to bring your baby's food first to allow you time to assist when a hot dinner isn't waiting.

  16. Step 3

Place your baby at a seat where food will not be going over her head.

  17. Step 4

Remove forks or knives from baby's reach.

  18. Step 5

Cut into meat to ensure it is properly cooked before serving.

Tips & Warnings
  • If driving in a foreign country make sure your car seat meets that country's standards.
  • If you are using the hotel's crib, check for the date to ensure it is not older than 10 years.
