Many people consider sexual attention flattering. But many times it is unwanted, especially if it keeps coming from someone to whom you aren't sexually attracted. Men and women tend to have different ways of dealing with this problem. Follow these steps to discourage sexual attention.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Let the person or persons know you aren't interested in them by telling them outright. If they persist in their attention, ignore them.
Step2
Try not to act like you are bothered by their attention. This behavior may be what is motivating their attention in the first place.
Step3
Tell the person or persons you are going to report them to the proper authorities if they persist with their sexual attention. This statement should discourage them. The authority may be your employer, boss, Human Resources Manager, Dean of Students or whatever authority figure handles this sort of problem in your jurisdiction.
Step4
Report the person or persons to the proper authority if they persist in their attention. Follow through with any necessary legal action.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try not to frequent places the offending person or persons may be. It will give them less chance to bother you.
  • Don't feel disempowered in this situation, especially if you are a woman. Stand up for your rights.
  • Contact the police if you feel physically threatened by the person or persons. You may need to file a restraining order to help protect you and have a permanent record of the harassment.
