The card game Black Lady is similar to Hearts except you don't want to end up with the Black Lady, which is the queen of spades. She will cost you 13 points if you take her in a trick. The following will show you how to play the game to win.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deck of cards with Jokers removed
  • 4 players
  1. Step 1

Shuffle and deal the cards one at a time until all the cards are gone. Since there are 4players in this game, each player will hold 13 cards. Group all the suits in your hand together and organize them from low to high. Two is the lowest card and ace is the highest.

  2. Step 2

Choose 3 cards from your hand that you don't wish to keep. Pass them face down on the table to the player that sits to your left. The player to your right will give you 3 cards, which you should incorporate into your hand.

  3. Step 3

The player sitting left of the dealer starts off the game. Place any card face up on the middle of the table. This is called the "lead card." You may not lead any round of this game with a heart until hearts have been broken, meaning someone has played a heart card during a round.

  4. Step 4

Go clockwise around the table, taking turns laying down a card in the same suit as the lead card. If you don't have a card in this suit, lay down any card you wish. This will be the low card on the stack and will not take the trick.

  5. Step 5

Take the trick (collect all four cards) if you have laid down the highest card in the suit or the highest heart card. The one who has taken the trick in each round starts the new round by laying down a new card.

  6. Step 6

End the round when everyone is out of cards and tally the final score. Count up your heart cards and give yourself 1 point for each heart card in your trick pile and 13 points for the queen of spades.

  7. Step 7

Keep playing rounds until a player reaches a score of 100. Win the game if you have the lowest amount of points at this time.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have the Black Lady (queen of spades), pass this card at the beginning of the game. You also should pass as many of your high heart cards as possible.
  • You can play the game so that the person holding the 2 of clubs starts the game.
  • If you collect all 13 heart cards and the queen of spades at game's end, you are "Shooting the Moon." You win the round and add an extra 26 points to every other player's score.
