Things You'll Need
- Vegan pure dark chocolate, cocoa powder, or hot chocolate powder
- Soy milk
- Medium-sized saucepan
- Double boiler
- Vanilla extract or vanilla syrup

Buy pure dark chocolate, cocoa powder, or hot chocolate powder without the following non-vegan ingredients: butter, butter oil, butterfat, milk, milk powder, cream, whey, casein and caseinate. Watch for special bolded allergen notices warning "contains milk ingredients or dairy products."

Buy soy milk. Use either sweetened vanilla flavored, chocolate flavored, or unsweetened.

Steam the soy milk on the stove top.

Melt the vegan dark chocolate on a stove top double boiler (if using bar chocolate).

Remove the soy milk from heat. Stir in the melted chocolate or vegan powdered chocolate or cocoa.

Add a few drops of vanilla extract or vanilla syrup and whisk or stir to blend.

Serve in mugs garnished with finely grated dark chocolate or sprinkled cocoa powder.

Tips & Warnings
Add 1 to 2 drops of peppermint extract for a holiday treat.
Use a milk frother to froth some extra soy milk for a foamy topping.
Skip Step 3 and add ice to make a delicious vegan iced chocolate milk drink.
You can substitute rice milk, almond milk or oat milk for soy milk.
Follow manufacturer instructions on the double boiler to prevent burns.
