How to Dress Like a Wench

Save

Halloween is an excellent time to explore the personality and flavor of different people, times and cultures. One costume favorite for many is the common tavern wench. If you are want to put a sexy spin on this year's festivities, follow these steps to create the look.

  • Use a tight low-cut peasant shirt and skirt as a foundation. You can find specialty shops online and visit Renaissance fairs that offer a wide selection of authentic clothing items from the era of wenches.

  • Select an appropriate bodice. Whether your socializing with pirates or tavern regulars, every true wench needs a bodice to display her assets. If you want your Halloween costume to be realistic, this is a must. Go with either black or brown leather and get it to fit really tight.

  • Wear boots that were made for walking and walking and walking some more. The average tavern wench or barmaid did a good deal of walking and most modern girls will do their own share of walking when wearing a Halloween costume. For this reason it is reasonable that you will want to make sure your feet are nice and comfortable.

  • Keep it simple. We are not talking about the toast of society for the time. There shouldn't be a great deal of lace, accessories and frills in the Halloween costume of a simple wench-at least not if you are trying to make the look believable.
