How to Greet New Neighbors
Unless you live in a secluded castle in the Scottish countryside, chances are good that you have neighbors. Greeting new neighbors soon after they move in is a great way to make them feel comfortable and introduce them to the community. Whether you live on a leafy suburban cul-de-sac or in a high-rise building downtown, you can take simple steps to help new neighbors feel welcome.

1
Form a welcoming committee. Ask your friends in the community to join you in greeting your new neighbors. Include people from a variety of professions, backgrounds and age groups. Your new neighbors will value the different perspectives.
-
2
Bring "welcome" gifts that help alleviate the stress of moving. A heat-and-serve meal, restaurant gift certificate or nice bottle of wine would be a perfect present.

3
Compile a list of useful names and phone numbers for your new neighbors. Include everything from doctors' offices to grocery stores, from elementary schools to pizza parlors.
-
4
Offer to help with small tasks. Your new neighbors might need help carrying in a few boxes or they might appreciate it if you could run a quick errand.

Tips & Warnings
Don't approach your new neighbors the second their moving truck pulls up. Give them a chance to become accustomed to their new home.
Keep in mind that not everyone feels comfortable around strangers. If your new neighbors seem shy, don't press the issue. Greet them with a casual, "Hi," and then let them go about their business.
