Creating direct mail that gets opened is a challenge for all marketers. Using a vellum envelope for direct mail is a great way to be sure that your intended recipient sees the message you want them to. Direct mail is often thrown away, but if the recipient can see the offer inside and is interested, they are more likely to open it. So how do you use a vellum envelope for direct mail?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vellum envelopes
  • Direct mail piece
  • Graphic designer or desktop publishing software
  1. Step 1

Determine what you are going to offer. The vellum envelope on its own will not get your mail piece opened, so figure out what you want to offer inside the envelope. Coupon offers and discounts are great ideas for the direct mail piece inside the vellum envelope.

  2. Step 2

Create an interesting look. A fun shaped mail piece is also a great thing to place inside a vellum envelope when utilizing direct mail. The recipient will be more likely to want to open the direct mail to see what the unique shape is. For example, you could place a circle shape designed to look like a pizza inside the vellum envelope to announce the opening of a pizza parlor. No matter the shape, creating something interesting to put inside the vellum envelope will help the direct mail piece.

  3. Step 3

Print in a large readable font and letters. The vellum envelope will allude to the contents inside, but you will want the recipients to know what to expect in order to get them to open it, so be sure to use large readable fonts and letters.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a non-standard sized vellum envelope if possible. It will further help your mail piece stand out.
