Deer often damage gardens and outdoor plants in yards near their habitats. You can build a deer guard around plants and gardens to protect the plants without using chemicals. This guard is lightweight and portable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Measuring tape
  • 3/4-inch PVC pipe
  • 8 ¾ inch 3 way corner connectors
  • Glue
  • Saw
  1. Step 1

Measure the are of the plant or garden you want to protect. This measurement determines the length of PVC pipe you need. The sides of the deer guard needs to be 3- to 4-feet high depending on the plant.

  2. Step 2

Cut the PVC pipe to fit around the plant in a square shape. You need 4 poles for the bottom, 4 poles for the side and 4 poles for the top.

  3. Step 3

Make a base around the plant. Connect the 4 PVC pipes with the 3-way connectors in a square shape. The third connector hole must face up in order to fit the side poles.

  4. Step 4

Slide the 4 side poles into the connectors. Press them in tightly.

  5. Step 5

Place 3-way connectors onto the top of the side poles.

  6. Step 6

Secure the top poles into the connectors to make a square shape.

  7. Step 7

Glue the connectors to the poles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Netting or plastic can be added around the sides of the guard for small animals.
  • Protect whole rows of plants in a garden by using "T" connectors on one side of the guard and adding PVC pipes to cover the row.
