Bodybuilding pageants range from fitness modeling competitions to shows in which the only thing that matters is the muscle. These pageants rarely have firmly set rules. This makes bodybuilding pageants exciting but can also make judging them a feat in itself.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Apply to judge if you have been in a bodybuilding pageant before or have experience in a related area of fitness. If you have no experience in bodybuilding or fitness, you must familiarize yourself with the sport.

  2. Step 2

Understand the guidelines of your particular pageant. The goal of your pageant will differ, depending on whether it is oriented toward bodybuilding or fitness. You must be especially aware of the pageant orientation for women. A women's pageant that is more bodybuilding focused should never include elements that would not be expected in a men's pageant. Fitness pageants may resemble more of a beauty pageant format.

  3. Step 3

Be fair and objective. Even if you know the contestants, judge based on actual performance and not perceived potential.

  4. Step 4

Familiarize yourself with with what a bodybuilder should look like if you are not an experienced bodybuilder. As a judge, you will be expected to recognize good bodybuilding, which breaks down into factors like muscle tone and definition, muscle symmetry, proportion, poise, attitude, and presentation.
