Funny, cute and delightful, a garden gnome, according to the legends, represents hope and good luck. Originally produced in the 19th century, gnomes have become popular modern garden additions. They add a touch of humor and variety to any garden. Arrange garden gnomes in a garden by using these steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on garden gnomes which reflect personal taste and interests. Garden gnomes come in a wide variety of themes. There are gnomes that fish, golf, write, play music and dance. Some are happy, and others are sad. Pick a gnome that fits the garden and the owner.

  2. Step 2

Select garden gnomes made of weather-resistant material. Nurseries, garden centers and home improvement stores are the best choices for finding outdoor garden gnomes.

  3. Step 3

Unify the gnomes. Select gnomes who have a similar size, coloring and are made of similar material. While some variation is good, radically different gnomes will not be visually pleasing.

  4. Step 4

Place a gnome in the garden. Find a spot where it looks natural, as if the gnome lives there. Underneath a bush, behind flowers or peaking out behind a tree are good choices. Be sure that visitors to the garden will be able to see the gnome.

  5. Step 5

Group multiple gnomes. For example, several fishing gnomes together add additional interest. Or create a workshop, with gnomes working at different tasks.

Tips & Warnings
  • "Gnome-napping" is a recent craze. Protect gnomes by keeping them in a secure location, such as a backyard. Visit Gnomes Without Homes, a website for missing gnomes, if your gnome goes missing.
