Step 1
Get details about the cattle drive so you can deliver them correctly to different sources. Note the time, opening date, beginning and ending areas, length of the drive and how many cattle are expected. Announce whether only hired workers are riding or if anyone can ride along. Mention the purpose of the cattle drive.
-
Step 2
Advertise for the cattle drive a month in advance. Share all the details you gathered in Step 1 with the public. If it is the beginning of a bigger event, include the event information. If you are accepting donations, tell the public how they can make them.
-
Step 3
Place ads in local newspapers, put fliers up in areas where people who may be interested in attending a cattle drive might gather. Riding schools and stables should top your list. Grocery stores, libraries, schools, western stores and gas stations are all great places for fliers.
-
Step 4
A cattle drive is news, so make the most of the publicity opportunity. Set up an interview with a local radio station or news station. Often these places allow you to have a minute or two to talk about your event. Send press releases to the local newspapers and news shows.
-
Step 5
Make a short commercial for a local radio station. Give all of the details clearly in the commercial and pay the radio station to play the commercial a few times a day. If you can make an inexpensive video promoting the event, put in on your website and offer it through other sites, such as YouTube.
