A facial implant is a plastic surgery procedure used to correct facial inconsistencies and give the face a more balanced look. People get facial implants to correct sunken cheekbones, strengthen the jawline or make the chin more even with the rest of the face.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a plastic surgeon in your area that performs facial implants. Ask for recommendations from your family doctor and from friends who have had plastic surgery done.

  2. Step 2

Inquire about the risks of facial implants. Complications rarely occur with facial implants, but there still is a possibility that a problem will arise. Infection and implants that shift are two side effects that can occur.

  3. Step 3

Follow all instructions prior to your facial implant surgery. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection and you may not be allowed to eat or drink anything the night before the surgery.

  4. Step 4

Expect to be put under general anesthesia. Due to the nature of the operation, local anesthesia is rarely given.

  5. Step 5

Undergo the facial implant surgery. An incision is made in the area that you wish to have corrected. Then, the implant is inserted into that area and the area is sutured.

  6. Step 6

Allow yourself to rest for several days following the surgery. Depending on the area of the facial implant, you may not be able to talk or smile. There will be some bruising and swelling at the area. Follow all post-op instructions to ensure a quick recovery.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the implant does shift, you will be required to go through another surgery to correct the problem.
  • If you have any type of tooth or gum problem, you should speak to your dentist before having the surgery.
