7. Follow the requirements of the site you have chosen to use, so as to make your communications as rapid and substantial as possible. Be prepared to spend a given amount of money for registration fees or other such monies

• Check names and, where possible, email addresses of the people you are planning to write to. Do online searches, and you may find some of them listed as repeat offenders of Internet fraud.

• Once you've established that your new love interest is a woman looking for a real relationship, begin to educate yourself on the language and customs of her home country. Be open-minded about everything, and expect a certain amount of cultural adjustment for the both of you, should one of you visit the other's home country.

• Don't let your desire for companionship overcome your common sense. If a woman builds up an online relationship with you, and then asks for money for plane fare or anything else, you've become involved in a scam, an attempt to get you for your money. Drop it immediately.

• Many men from around the world are operating on such websites, adding stock photos and invented stories as profiles, so be wary. In the absence of strong supporting evidence, you may be writing to a man who is working a scam.
