How to Tie a Fancy Bow
Fancy decorative bows have a way of turning an ordinary wrapped gift into a work of art. But their complex appearance is often deceptive, as many fancy bows are actually quite easy to assemble. Fool all of your friends and family into thinking you're a pro by making your own decorative bows. Just follow these instructions to make fancy rosette bows to adorn all of your packages.
Things You'll Need
- 20-inch length of wired ribbon
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Extra ribbon for accent

Cut the ribbon into varying lengths, going from long to short.

Take the longest piece of the ribbon and peel the fabric back at each end to expose the wire. Bend the wire around the fabric so as to secure it.

Scrunch up the other end of the ribbon along the wire so that the ribbon is gathered fairly tightly. The wire should be protruding from the end of the ribbon at this point.

Trim off some of the extra wire, leaving enough to bend back as you did for the other end.

Bend the ribbon into a circle and hot glue the ends together if you want (this will keep the ends secured but is not necessary).

Move on to the next longest piece and repeat Steps 2 through 5. Place the completed circle on top of the first one and hot glue them together.

Continue this process until you have used all of the ribbon. When you are finished, you should have a bow with graduated tiers that resembles a rosette. Fluff and arrange the layers to create the desired look.

Add a small ball of ribbon to the top of the bow to finish off the rosette look.

Give the bow a final touch: cut two equal lengths of ribbon, trim the edges at an angle, and insert them under the rosette to hang down on the package.

Tips & Warnings
Add interest to the bow by using different colors of ribbon for the different layers. Or choose one primary color in various patterns, such as polka dots and plaids.
Attach a large safety pin or a hair barrette to the back of the rosette so that it can be recycled as a fashionable accessory after the gift has been unwrapped.
