Sugaring is an inexpensive way to remove body hair using all natural ingredients. Using sugar, lemons and cloth strips, you can make your skin silky smooth for weeks. Since it adheres only to hair rather than skin, it's much less painful than waxing and is easily cleaned up with water. Here's how to sugar your legs at home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Candy thermometer
  • Tongue depressor
  • Cotton fabric strips

Step1
Combine the sugar, lemon juice and water in a heavy saucepan and heat on low. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature; remove from heat once it reaches 250 degrees.
Step2
Allow the mixture to cool enough to spread onto the skin without burning. Test it on the palm of your hand.
Step3
Apply the mixture to your legs with a tongue depressor.
Step4
Cover the area of your leg that has the mixture on it with strips of cotton.
Step5
Allow the sugar mixture to set for a few minutes.
Step6
Grip the bottom of the cloth strip and pull upward against the direction of the hair in a fast, swift movement.
Step7
Repeat with the remaining areas of your legs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Finely woven cotton works better than coarse for the strips. Old t-shirts, sheets and other cloth items you have laying around are perfect for this. You can experiment with the size of strips you use to find what works best for you.
  • Use cornstarch on sensitive areas such as underarms and the bikini line before applying the sugar to ensure that it won't stick to the skin.
  • You can pour leftover sugar mixture into a glass jar and use it later. It can be reheated by placing the jar in a saucepan full of boiling water.
