1
Line the case with either carpet fragments or other "quiet" material to reduce rattle. Be careful not to block the air vents, because your computer may run one or two degrees hotter than normal.
-
2
Replace your computers fan or power supply with quieter models. These are often the noisiest of the computer's components.
-
-
3
Replace your old, noisy hard drive with a quieter new one. Or you can enclose the hard drive in an enclosed or removable case, which will mute the noise.
-
4
Consider putting padded feet on the bottom of your computer's case, especially if it's sitting on an uncarpeted surface. You can also insert silicone fan gaskets between your computer's fan and the case to make it run quieter.
-
5
Check for and tighten loose screws, inside the computer. These can be the source of increased noise.
-
6
Enclose the computer's power supply in a fan box, which you can easily make out of cardboard and tape to the inside of the computer. Make sure the box is vented so it doesn't overheat. Instructions for building one of these boxes can be found at the link listed below.
