1. Learn to properly trim your beard. Trimming is an essential part of beard upkeep. Invest in a high-quality beard and mustache trimmer. Use it to evenly trim your beard to the desired length, then shape it.

2. Consider visiting a professional barber so they can shape your beard for you. After they've done the initial shaping, you can maintain the look at home. If you're not happy with the shaping done by the barber, find another one who can better satisfy your needs.

3. Remember the importance of good hygiene. Just like the hair on your head, your beard needs to be cleaned. Shampoo it every other day. Use conditioner too--especially if you've been out in the sun a lot or swimming in a chlorinated pool. You can use the same shampoo and conditioner that you use on your head, or you can purchase some designed just for beards.

4. Dry your beard thoroughly after a shower. Run a comb through it so it looks nice and to keep it free from tangles.
