How to Crash a Tailgate Party

The only thing better than sipping a beer and eating some BBQ in a parking lot before a big game is sipping someone else's beer and eating someone else's BBQ before that game. Follow these steps to sneak into someone else's tailgate party.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the party. You can't crash a tailgate party if you don't know where it is. Look out for good games and the right time to crash a tailgate party successfully. Even though die-hard tailgaters are out there in snow and hail, you have to ask yourself if those are the times you really want to be standing in a stadium parking lot.

  2. Step 2

Come bearing gifts. Even if you bring something nominal, your contribution will be a pass-card into the tailgate party. Bring a six-pack of beer or, if you're feeling generous, a twelve-pack so you can show the tailgate hosts that you come in good faith.

  3. Step 3

Wear the right colors. You really don't want to be trying to crash a tailgate party full of Ohio State fans when you're wearing your favorite Michigan sweatshirt. This holds true with any sporting event, anywhere around the world. Approach a tailgate party wearing the home team's colors since home team fans are more likely to be tailgating.

  4. Step 4

Use a segue. Approaching the party with a pro-home team chant, a slur about the unfavored team or a simple "How you guys doing," is better than simply slinking up to the tailgate and grabbing a beer. Showing the tailgate party that you're there for the company and not for the refreshments (even if that's not true) is the best way to gain entrance to the party.
