How to Set a Hog Trap
Hogs can become a big nuisance because they reproduce rapidly causing them to be difficult to get under control. If hogs are ruining your fields and destroying your crops then you may need to set a hog trap.

1
Put a trap in an area where you have seen hogs. Remove the spring from the trap and tie the door open for the first week. This will allow the hogs to get used to the trap so they will go in it all the way and allow your human scent to evaporate off of the trap.
-
2
Place corn inside the trap and drop it around the outside of the trap. Hogs will begin to pile in the trap to eat the corn. Use a deer-feeder if you want to add feed on a continuous basis.

3
Set the trap when the hogs become accustomed to going inside the trap to feed. Place a block in the back of the trap and put a bucket on top of it. Fill the bucket with corn.
-
4
Fasten a rope to the bucket then run the rope through the top back end of the trap. Pull the rope up to the front of the trap and tie it to a prop that is positioned between the edge of the door and the jamb of the trap. Make sure there is no slack in the rope.
-
5
Check the trap for a hog every morning. If the trap was set correctly that means that the hog knocked the bucket off of the block, pulling the rope and removing the prop. The door swung shut behind him locking him in.

Tips & Warnings
Watch for ricocheting bullets if you shoot the hog through the trap. Place the muzzle of the rifle through the trap, directly at the hog.
