How to Use a Sanding Stick

If you are having problems sanding those hard to reach spots on model airplanes or doll house furniture, a sanding stick is what you need to get the job done. It is simple to use and quite ingenious.

Choose the sanding stick that fits your needs. There are several types, each with advantages and disadvantages. Some sanding sticks look like a pen with a flat chiseled end and a rounded end, and have a mini-belt of sandpaper that fits around it. The loop can be shifted forward or backward for continuous new sandpaper. The other style has a tapered sanding surface, making it look a great deal like a miniature pie cutter, which has a flat side and a rounded side on the other. The sandpaper is folded into a slot to secure it.

Use the tool in difficult-to-reach areas that are too narrow for your fingers. The edge of the tool adds pressure and insures all spots are evenly sanded.

    • 3

Use the rounded area when you need to sand smooth an area that is wider and more extensive.

Find other uses around the house for the sanding stick. It is quite useful for automotive projects such as removing rust and wax buildup on the body of a car. The sanding stick can also be used to clean away unwanted burrs of plaster on molds. Another use for sanding sticks is removing dried bits of residue after stripping wood. The sanding stick is the new household product that has a multitude of applications.
