How to Play Kerby

Kerby is a simple ball game (also called curby) for two kids. No one knows the true origin of kerby or when the game was invented, but it's been around for at least 40 or 50 years. Over the years, a lot of different variations of the game have emerged. The following shows you how to play kerby.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 kids
  • Lightly traveled street
  • Bouncy ball

Step1
Find a street that has very little traffic.
Step2
Stand on the curb facing the street, while your opponent stands on the opposite curb facing you.
Step3
Throw the ball toward the curb across the street. The object is to hit the curb and get the ball to bounce back to you.
Step4
Earn one point if the ball reaches you after throwing it toward the opposite curb. Earn another point if you manage to catch the ball when it comes back to you.
Step5
Give your opponent the ball for his turn.
Step6
Win the game when you reach twenty one points or whatever score you and your opponent agree on before the game starts.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also play kerby where if you catch a ball after it hits the curb, you are earn a bonus round. Stand in the middle of the street, and throw the ball at the curb. Then catch the ball each time it comes back to you. Your turn is over when you miss the ball. Collect a score of however many times you caught the ball.
  • In this day and age, you must be careful playing on streets. Watch for cars constantly. Younger kids should have a parent with them when playing this game.
