Get a Washboard Stomach

The pursuit of a washboard stomach can seem like the search for the Holy Grail, but it doesn't have to be. Combining the proper diet and eating habits with the right exercises and determination can deliver the 6-pack abs you're looking for in just a few short months.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Heart rate monitor
  1. Step 1

Eat a low-fat organic diet. Reducing body fat to 9% or less for men and 13% or less for women by eating low-fat foods free from the toxins of commercially-farmed foods provides you the optimum nutrition you need to slim down and tighten your stomach muscles.

  2. Step 2

Perform high-intensity abdominal exercises, including squats, lunges, sit-ups, reverse curls, crunches and rowing. All these activities can sculpt your abs.

  3. Step 3

Work out 3 to 4 times a week for 30 to 40 minutes per session, performing 1 to 3 sets of 12 to 16 repetitions of each exercise.

  4. Step 4

Exercise at 60 percent of your maximum heart rate. To determine your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220.

  5. Step 5

Drink a lot of water. Divide your body weight in pounds by 2, and consume this many ounces of water per day. Your body's chemical reactions depend on water. If you don't hydrate, your body begins storing water in your tissues, which creates a bloated and puffy appearance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear a heart rate monitor when you exercise to ensure your heart is working at 60% of your maximum heart rate.
  • Avoid juice, coffee, sports beverages and other commercial drinks. These drinks dehydrate and don't help you in your pursuit of washboard abs.
  • To protect yourself from injury, rest between training sessions. If your abdominal muscles are sore, do not start exercising again until the pain subsides.
