Many types of Pentecostal churches hold a wide range of beliefs, but all Pentecostal churches believe in salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ. Some believe in handling of snakes and the need to speak in tongues, but contrary to popular myth, these are a minority. Follow these steps if you're interested in becoming Pentecostal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Look for Pentecostal churches in your area in the telephone directory or online. Call several congregations and ask about their services, beliefs or any other questions you may have.
Step2
Understand that most Pentecostal churches believe once you are saved through Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit enters your body and lives through you.
Step3
Realize that many Pentecostal churches are very conservative. They may require women to wear skirts or dresses, wear no makeup and not cut their hair. Some require a dress code for men also.
Step4
Know that Pentecostal churches become very charismatic during their worship services. This means that there's often lots of singing and clapping. Some people may go into trances, speak in tongues or even fall on the floor.
Step5
Be aware that some Pentecostal churches believe speaking in tongues is required for salvation and redemption through Jesus Christ. They believe that speaking in tongues is the Holy Spirit speaking through them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Recognize that some Pentecostal churches believe in doing whatever the pastor tells them to do. Some churches don't believe in watching TV, socializing outside the church or listening to anything but Christian music.
  • Some Pentecostal churches hold services several times a week. There are lots of stories, singing and praying together as a congregation.
