Whether you are a devoted rabbit owner, or just looking for a way to give back to your community, volunteering with a rabbit rescue can be a rewarding experience. There are plenty of different things to do, but check with a local rabbit rescue to see what kind of help they are in need of.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the rabbit rescue's website for contact information. You might also be able to find out what specific volunteer resources they are looking for.

  2. Step 2

Contact someone from the rabbit rescue to set up a time to help out.

  3. Step 3

Help clean out rabbit cages at the shelter. Be prepared to get dirty. This might be something they just do on weekends.

  4. Step 4

Visit the rabbits on a daily basis to take care of regular needs, like feeding, watering, and litter box cleaning.

  5. Step 5

Play with the bunnies. These bunnies need socialization to keep them adoption-ready Playing with them and holding them helps them get used to human companionship.

  6. Step 6

Volunteer at an event or store that benefits the organization. Some rescues have stores set up that sell bunny necessities like food, hay and cages.

  7. Step 7

Educate the public about house rabbits as pets and rabbit adoption. Tasks associated with this can range from handing out brochures to speaking at seminars.

  8. Step 8

Baby-sit (or bunny-sit!) other pet rabbits. Some organizations offer bunny-sitting services for people who have adopted rabbits from them.

  9. Step 9

Foster a rabbit or two. If you have space and time, open your home up to foster rabbits. This requires a lot of responsibility–just as if you had adopted them. But, you also have to be careful not to grow too attached to the rabbit while you foster them.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find you just don't have the time to help out at a shelter, monetary or material donations will most likely be greatly appreciated. You can check your local rabbit rescue's website to see if they have a "wish list" of materials they need.
