How to Animate Slides in OpenOffice Impress

OpenOffice Impress is a free presentation program that allows the users to create slide shows. Animating slides in an Impress presentation adds movement and interest to the slides. OpenOffice is a user-friendly program that makes creating memorable presentations easy to use at home or at work.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open your Impress presentation. Click on "Impress" in your Start menu. A small window pops up. Choose the "Open Exciting Presentation" open and then choose your presentation from the list of files.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the "Custom Animation" tab in the View section on the right side of the window.

  3. Step 3

    Select the slide you want to animate from the display in the left side of the page.

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Add" button.

  5. Step 5

    Choose an animation from the window that pops up. When you choose an animation the slide shows you a preview of what the animation looks like.

  6. Step 6

    Decide on the speed of the OpenOffice animation. Choose from the speeds provided in the pull down-menu and then click "OK."

  7. Step 7

    Choose a start time for the animation and a direction of movement of the animation from the options provided.

  8. Step 8

    Preview the slide show. Click "Preview" in the Slide show menu.

  9. Step 9

    Save the presentation. Choose "Save" in under the File menu.

Tips & Warnings
  • Impress allows you to add animated clip art to your presentation.
  • Play and edit Impress documents in Microsoft PowerPoint. PowerPoint presentations also open and allow you to edit them in Impress.
  • Save your presentation every few minutes in case something happens to your computer while you are working.
