A record lampshade is a piece of home decor you make yourself and is perfect for music lovers. The lampshade makes an interesting conversation piece for any home. This shade requires just a few materials and is simple enough to be made by children. Turn your favorite LP into a create shade for your favorite lamp.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 Vinyl LP record
  • Box cutter
  • Ruler
  • Oven
  • 1 12-ounce soda or beer can
  • Cookie sheet
  • Lamp or hanging light fixture
Step1
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
Step2
Measure the diameter of the record with a ruler. Divide the measurement of the record by 8. Mark each eighth along the diameter of the record.
Step3
Cut around the record on the lines you marked in a circular fashion. Stop 2 inches before the next mark. Repeat the process until you have cut all eight marks.
Step4
Place a beer or soda can in the center of a cookie sheet. Center the record on the top of the can. Place it carefully on top.
Step5
Place it in the oven and bake between 2 and 5 minutes.
Step6
Remove from the oven. Grab the center of the record and pull upward to separate the rows. At this point, you are able to mold the record into any shape you want.
Step7
Trim the center hole of the record to fit on top of the light fixture.
Step8
Slide the shade onto the top bolt of the lamp. Replace the nut or top part of the lamp, to hold the shade in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not bend the record before it is heated. The vinyl breaks and falls apart when bent.
