Step 1
Start breaking the pattern of always being on your computer. It might feel awkward at first but force yourself to take breaks.
-
Step 2
Replace a few things you normally do online virtually with real life activities and events. For instance, shop for clothing at a physical store or go bowling.
-
Step 3
Join clubs. Locate groups you're interested in and be sure to join clubs that meet at a physical location for at least one hour a week.
-
Step 4
Remember how you (or other people you know) used to make dates before online chatting and dating if you're single. Enjoy meeting and getting to know someone in person for a change before dating them or becoming their friend.
-
Step 5
Go to dances, parties and other events to meet people and make new friends. Enjoy outdoor activities. Get a dog if you don't have one--you'll have to walk it and take it to parks.
-
Step 6
Realize that many people have forgotten how to socialize offline because it's easier and less of a risk to hide behind a computer screen. Know that people feel more isolated than ever in some ways though.
-
Step 7
Understand that the more organizations and clubs you join and the more you go out to do the things you like, the more you'll meet people who are interested in the same things you are. Socialize offline and enjoy your life.
