1. Check with your local optician. He or she may sell both prescription and non-prescription designer sunglasses. Since most people don't think to ask their eye doctor about designer shades, this may be a good way to get them inexpensively. Ask if they offers a discount on non-prescription pairs.

2. Shop at outlet stores and chain stores like TJ Maxx and Ross. You'll find last year's designer sunglasses to buy at reduced prices. You have to be lucky or have good timing though. The best sunglasses at these stores get snatched up quickly.

3. Click on websites that offer designer sunglasses. Read the ordering, payment and shipping instructions and only buy if you feel comfortable with the site security and reputation. If not, there's always Amazon and eBay.

4. Spend a leisurely afternoon at Bergdorf's or Saks and buy your designer sunglasses as close to the source as possible. Of course, you'll have to pay a lot more for your designer shades here, but the ambiance is much better than a discount store.

5. Consider how a pair of designer shades will look, not only on your face, but how they will fit with your wardrobe and persona before you buy them. A pair of sunglasses that looks great on the beach may not match your work outfits.
