Using a duck blind is a favored technique of waterfowl hunters. Ducks are wary animals and the use of camouflage is important for luring them close. Using a duck blind makes hunting more comfortable because it is warmer and dry inside the blind.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Duck blind
  • Camouflage netting
  • Duck decoys
  • Shotgun
  1. Step 1

Construct the blind in an area of high vegetation near a body of water known to be frequented by ducks. The high vegetation helps camouflage its boxy shape and draws less attention to you.

  2. Step 2

Cover the blind in camouflage netting including the "viewing area" on the front side of it. Use a netting color that matches the surrounding area.

  3. Step 3

Cut shooting slits in the netting over the front of it that allows you to acquire targets and fire your weapon.

  4. Step 4

Place duck decoys in the water near the shore where your blind is situated. The decoys help lure ducks into close range, affording you a better shot

  5. Step 5

Flip the camouflage netting up so you can get into the blind with your weapon, ammunition and other supplies.

  6. Step 6

Pull the netting back down over the front of the blind, load your shotgun and wait for the ducks to arrive.

  7. Step 7

Rest your gun with the barrel protruding from the blind to be prepared for ducks to arrive. Always keep your gun "safe" until you are ready to fire.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stay quiet and move as little as possible in the blind to prevent the ducks from having any chance of noticing you.
  • Utilize a duck call to help lure the ducks in faster.
  • Never aim a gun at something you are not willing to kill. Accidents happen and you can hurt someone or get in a lot of trouble if the gun goes of accidentally.
  • Be careful when getting into the blind with your gun. Make sure it is on "safe" and unloaded so it is not accidentally discharged if you slip or drop the gun when entering the blind.
  • Understand the local laws on hunting regulations, especially on the use of blinds, to avoid trouble with a game warden.
