How to License Microsoft Software

Computers have made almost everything easier, including illegally copying Microsoft software. This is a crime, and if you take part, you're subject to civil and criminal penalties. Software companies like Microsoft try to fight piracy by requiring all their software to be licensed. Doing that means that you legally have the right to run that program on your PC. To license your software, there are a few simple steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Determine your needs. Options to license your software vary depending on how you'll use the license. If you're a business or an organization, it depends on the size of your organization. Licensing options are also available for personal use.
Step2
Buy the package that fits you. Software licensing packages are different for government organizations, charities, small businesses and corporations.
Step3
License each computer. Even if your computers are networked together, each individual PC must be licensed on its own. Licensing multiple computers is covered when you purchase a software licensing package.
Step4
Sign a Volume Licensing Agreement. This is necessary for any organization that runs more than five computers. You can find a Volume Licensing Agreement online or at any Microsoft retailer.
Step5
Purchase a new computer. Microsoft software that is already installed on a new PC is already licensed.
Step6
Buy new software. When you purchase software from a reputable Microsoft retailer, you can simply follow the instructions on the screen to complete the licensing process.
Step7
Pay attention to pop-up reminders. If for some reason you can't complete licensing at the time of installation, your software will periodically remind you to complete the necessary licensing information. When you receive one of these reminders, go ahead and complete the process instead of clicking on "Remind Me Later."
