Step 1
Learn the basics. Before you begin the conversion process you need some background on Mormonism. According to the religion, Joseph Smith, the founder of the religion, was a true prophet. This is not a disputable claim to Mormons and must be accepted before you can convert. Also, get to know what Mormonism thinks about controversial social issues such as abortion and homosexuality so you can decide whether your beliefs are consistent with those of Mormonism.
-
Step 2
Study the Thirteen Articles of Faith. It's not an exaggeration to say that all of Mormonism's beliefs are contained in these thirteen core principles. Among them are some fairly universalist ideas, such as the belief in God, as well as some beliefs that are very specific to the Mormon religion. Study and investigate the principles thoroughly to get a good grasp of the religion's meaning.
-
Step 3
Read the holy texts. To further your understanding and commitment to the religion, you should read the important religious texts of Mormonism. Among these are the King James Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price. These books will give you a good introduction into the LDS take on Christianity and what it means to be a Mormon.
-
Step 4
Find a missionary. The Mormon church sends missionaries into the world to inform people about the religion and, sometimes, to bring them into the fold. You've probably seen a Mormon missionary in your neighborhood (they are generally young men in white shirts and slacks, often with bicycles), but if you haven't, visit the nearest Mormon temple to get advice on taking your conversion to the next step.

on 1/20/2008 You don't have to go through steps 1-3 before contacting the missionaries. If you contact them first, they can be very helpful in answering any questions you may have as you go through the other steps.
