If you need to talk to a friend about masturbation, be open minded, both for yourself and for your friend. This is a topic that is sometimes, in our society, frowned upon, even with so much open sexuality all around. Be willing to talk about masturbation openly and sincerely, without a reactionary or prudish mindset.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine who you will talk to, and why. If you are practising masturbation, and want some advice from a friend, find one you can trust. While more and more people are becoming open to the fact that almost everyone masturbates to some degree, there still is quite a stigma attached to it in certain circles. You shouldn't feel vulnerable when talking about it.

  2. Step 2

Refuse to be affected by what others think of masturbation. It is a normal and natural expression of your sexuality. You need to have that idea clearly in mind and accept it before you'll be able to talk about this effectively with a friend.

  3. Step 3

Be non-judgemental, either of yourself, or of your friend, if she is the one coming to you with this information. Again, recognize that masturbation is a very normal activity, and that it's something that should be talked about a bit more openly.

  4. Step 4

Offer help to any friend who comes to you. There are many online sites to which you can go to find out answers to specific questions that you or your friend may have. This can go a long way to helping each of you feel more comfortable with the topic.

  5. Step 5

Talk with your parents if you're young and still live at home, if you can gather up the courage. Your mom or dad have been through more of these things than you realize, and one of them may yet be your best friend if you need to talk about masturbation or other such topics. Give them a chance.
