For many aspiring writers, the Internet is the first place to seek publication. The millions of websites online make getting published in some form easier than the traditional pitch to a print publisher. Any type of writing can be published online, but there are different places to seek publication depending on the genre.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Look for sites that post fiction, and submit your stories. Don't expect pay for fiction, but make sure you get a byline with your name or pen name that will stay with your story. Pay attention to what rights you are giving up by letting the site publish your story or poem.
Step2
Target your nonfiction items to websites that cover the niche information as your article. Check the site and see if it offers any payment for freelance contributions.
Step3
Try writing SEO nonfiction tailored to specific keywords in order to interest more websites. Write the content with an eye to the keyword density (the number of times the specific words are used in the text). Pitch your content by mentioning its SEO value.
Step4
Search for sites that have a link for freelance contributions. Look for websites that have writers guidelines for freelance writers. Use the contact link, and ask for submission information if it is not already on the site.
Step5
Use content sites to build your portfolio, and then use it as a launch pad to query print publishers.

on 11/29/2007 I'm still learning and mastering SEO. I think once I do the floodgates will open and opportunities will present themselves. In the mean time, I keep writing. Thank you!
