How to Make an Plaster Animal Face Mask

Instructions

    Make Plaster Mask

  1. Step 1

    Cut the plaster bandages into strips 2-4 inches long.

  2. Step 2

    Cover face with Vaseline. Be sure to add a lot of Vaseline along hair areas.

  3. Step 3

    Place straws into nose.

  4. Step 4

    Dip bandages into water and remove excess water. Start to place bandages on nose and work you way out.

  5. Step 5

    Smooth rough edges.

  6. Step 6

    Cover whole face with bandages.

  7. Step 7

    Let dry for about 10 minutes.

  8. Step 8

    Remove mask carefully along edges.

  9. Step 9

    Place mask on table and put newspapers or paper towels inside mask.

  10. Step 10

    Add animal features to face with wet bandages. This could be ears, nose or special facial features.

  11. Step 11

    Make holes for string on the edge of the mask in line with your eyes.

  12. Step 12

    Sand with fine sand paper once the mask is fully dry.

  13. Make Mask Come Alive

  14. Step 1

    Chose your favorite animal to create.

  15. Step 2

    Begin to gather supplies to make your animal mask come alive. This could be yarn for hair, feathers, paints or special details to make your animal mask life like.

  16. Step 3

    Paint and decorate your animal's face.

  17. Step 4

    Tie feathers, hair or yarn around the edge of the mask.

  18. Step 5

    Tie ribbon or string through previously made holes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you know that your animal will need hair, punch holes along the top and edge while your mask is wet so that you can easily add hair.
  • Do not wrap bandages too far under the chin, or the mask will be hard to remove after it's dry.
