Step1
Decide what kind of wooden planter you would like to build. Consider the possibility of using different shapes and sizes so that your planter will both blend in with the look of your backyard and also stand out as a special project that you built yourself.
Step2
Measure out the dimensions on pieces of wood, and cut them out to make the sides of your planter. This is one of the most important steps in making the wooden planter.
Step3
Cut the wood to the exact dimensions that you need. If you want your planter to be a foot and a half long, then makes sure that both sides that should be that long are exactly the same. Failing to do this will create a wooden planter that looks off center.
Step4
Use a wood glue to fix the pieces together. Do this one board at a time. Take two pieces of wood, and apply glue to the parts of the boards that will be in contact with each. Use glue on the boards that can be seen so that there won't be any visible nail heads. You don't have to glue the bottom piece on. Just set it aside for now.
Step5
Use clamps to hold the boards together while the glue is drying. Make sure that they are tight and in a secure place while they dry.
Step6
Nail the bottom board to complete the planter.
Step7
Use any stains or paints that you would like to get the right look that will compliment the outside of your house.
