How to Host a Shrek Birthday Party for Kids
Kids love to celebrate their birthday with a special theme. If Shrek is your child's favorite Ogre, then invite him into your home and host a party. The girls can come dressed like Princess Fiona and the boys can paint their faces green and dress like Ogre's. Serving grotesque food and "swamp juice" will be such a hit that other parents will be green with envy. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Make your own invitations by downloading pictures of Shrek character's and scroll down the details for your "Shrektacular" event. Have the kids come dressed like one of their favorite characters.
-
2
Create a swamp land. Ideally you need an outdoor area, but you could make a smaller version with buckets for indoors. Fill a kiddie pool with water and green food coloring. Toss in some plastic snakes, lizards and bugs. Make trees out of posterboard, paint them brown and hang them on the wall. Cut shapes of lilly pads from green foam, put them in the water and place toads on top to float.

3
Have a castle area decorated with gold tones, flowers and jewels. Cover tables with gold table clothes and fill them with serving trays banquet style. Place flowers and butterflies in between with strings of play pearls. Cut a castle shape out of cardboard and paint it silvery blue with jewels to embellish it-hang or stand. Place toy horses all around and a carriage if you have one.
-
4
Set up activity tables. Have one with Shrek coloring books and crayons. Have another to make a mess on with homemade slime. Assign a parent to this table for help. Tie green balloons around the chairs.
-
5
Play pin the tail on donkey. Give each child a name tail. Write Princess followed by child's name or Ogre and the child's name. Whose ever name comes closest wins. Play another game called, Ready-Set-Lace. Give each child a handful of Cheerio's and a strand of licorice. See who gets the most on a strand for a Shrek prize.
-
6
Serve yucky food that only a Shrek fan could love. Make "Leeches on Logs", "Green Ogre Goo" and "Donkey Snacks". Wash it down with a good cold glass of "Swamp Juice". Give each child a slice of green Shrek cake or a Princess ice cream cone served with glittery sprinkles.
-
7
Wind down at the end. Put on a Shrek movie for the kids to calm down after a busy day. This will give you time to pass out the party favors and finish the day with a happy ending.
