How to Reinstall Applications on a New Computer

Getting a new computer is exciting, but you need the old computer to set up the new computer to have your programs and documents. Copying the documents over is pretty easy. However, programs are more detailed. You need to reinstall the programs you want to use on your PC. Apple computers are another story. They try to keep all programs on each new computer, so if you find something missing, contact the manufacturer.

Instructions

1. Install the operating system if it hasn't been done already.

2. Plug your old computer in close to where you are working with the new unit. Now make note of which programs you definitely must have. These will be the programs you use on a daily basis. Reinstall any program you use regularly to the new machine. The license for the old machine will allow you to switch machines for upgrading purposes.

3. Find all of your program CD's or backups. Work on one program at a time and walk through the installation steps.

4. Register the software during the installation process if the disk insists you register it. The company has a copy of it; if there are any problems, just call the number to contact the software company. Let them know you are reinstalling software for a new computer and they will ask for your registration number.

5. Buy the latest upgrade of any older software you want to reinstall if the system shows it is too old for the new computer. They will need your certification number.

• There is really no reason to save copies of old software-you won't want to go backwards with your technology.

• There could be issues with some older games or programs incompatible with the new hardware.
