How to Eat Strawberries

Strawberries have long been a fruit favorite with families because of their sweet taste. You can use strawberries in many dishes or eat them raw. Eat them right off the vine if you can.

  • Pick fresh strawberries or buy them at a local market or grocery store. Eat them within a day for the best taste but refrigerate any leftover berries. Add sugar or whipped cream for a sweeter taste.

  • Boil strawberries on the stove with sugar to make strawberry sauce. Use on cakes and ice cream. Or boil strawberries, sugar and pectin according jam instructions. Pour into sterilized jars and save. Jam can be used all year long.

  • Bake sliced strawberries and sugar in your favorite pie crust. Add rhubarb if you like a tarter tasting pie. Cook until crust is done. Serve hot or cold with whipped cream on top or ice cream on the side.

  • Add strawberries to sponge cake, golden cake or chocolate cake. Bake according to cake directions. Or cook an angel food cake. Let it cool and top it with sliced strawberries.

  • Slice strawberries into pancake batter and cook in a frying pan. Add whipped cream on top. Or slice strawberries and add spoonfuls to cooked waffles. Drizzle chocolate over the top.

  • Crush strawberries in a blender with vanilla ice cream and milk to make a tasty milkshake. Add bananas or another berry to make a great fruit cocktail milkshake. Leave out the milk and ice cream and blend strawberries with ice and juice to make a smoothie.

  • Bake shortcake or short bread in the oven. Let cool slightly. Add strawberries and cream for a great shortcake dessert.
