How to Plan for a Second Child
After several months or years of enjoying your first child, you may begin contemplating adding another child to your family. You may desire a sibling and playmate for your first child or feel that you want to experience being a mother to an infant again. Whatever the reason, there are ways that you can plan for your second child.

1
Wait at least a year after your first child's birth. This not only gives your body enough time to recover from your initial pregnancy, but also gives you enough time to mentally adjust to the idea of a second child.

2
Plan your schedule ahead of time. You have to adjust to an infant's needs as well as keeping your older child on her regular schedule. For the first few months, you may wish to ask for some assistance from a family member.

Help your first child adjust to the idea of a new sibling. During your planning process, you should take some time to get your first child used to the idea of a new family member. Let the child help decorate the nursery or pick out special gifts for the new baby.

4
Go through your first child's baby items. See what items can be used again and what should be discarded. Reusable items typically include a crib, stroller, clothes and high chair.

5
Use a babysitter or housekeeping service if needed. If you begin to feel overwhelmed, hire someone to come in and help ease your burden.

Tips & Warnings
Stock up on household and baby supplies before the birth of your second child. This makes the transition much easier.
Don't be alarmed if your first child is not overjoyed at the prospect of a younger sibling. Young children may begin acting like a baby again and older children may act out by throwing temper tantrums.
